Gina Lollobrigida Diamonds Sold at Sotheby's Auction

When speaking on diamonds as an investment option, these are mostly celebrated people to take maximum from them. Gina Lollobrigida was one of the most famous Italian actresses of her time, a photojournalist and a sculptor – definitely holding a position in a 'celebrated' niche. In addition to all unique properties typical for diamonds, Lollobrigida's gems also acquired a kind of charm from their celebrated proprietress.

The former actress, who is now 85, entered the auction in Geneva to sell her jewelry in order to raise funds for supporting stem cell research in Italy. According to Lollobrigida, she was happy to wear jewelry but now she believes they will bring more use when on sale. Overall they brought the actress $4.9 million and now this huge sum of money is destined to cure many illnesses. The jewelry also will go on display in London, Rome and New York as a part of Sotheby's “Magnificent Jewels and Nobel Jewels”.

So what were the items? A set of diamond and natural pearl earrings sold at a record price - $2.37 million, beating Elizabeth Taylor's earrings by Bulgari sold two years earlier for less than $1.9 million. There also was a set of necklace and bracelet by Bulgari and a ring with 19.03-carat cushion diamond inside. Each of these items were sold for about $776.
